We can't imagine a better way to see Huayhuash than with Los Amigos de Huayhuash.

The mountains are beautiful and trekking there is a real treat. But what made our trip so fun and memorable was the service we received from Los Amigos de Huayhuash. They are a family business based in a village near the start of the trek. Anamin was our contact prior to arriving in Peru. She is extraordinarily helpful and friendly, answering all questions. And she organized everything (from pickup in Lima to a return bus back to Lima and all in-between) so smoothly, it was amazing. Our guides were her brother Aldolfo and cousin Dyer (who was our donkey driver). Both were so very friendly and supportive. It felt like hiking with friends. The food they cooked was plentiful and near gourmet fantastic. They let us set our own pace, while they pointed out wildlife and features of the land that they know very well and take obvious pride in sharing with others. We had never been on a guided trek before, but we shouldn't have been worried. The 14 day trek with Aldolfo and Dyer was a delight from start to finish (a great finish indeed with a homemade meal at Adolfo's village home).

Absolute stunning trek!

Absolutely stunning trek! All three of us ladies in our late 20s decided to do the 12 day trek with Los Amigos de Huayhuash, a small family run operator group. From our initial contact with them, Anamin, the sister of the family was fantastic with helping with logistics. Not to mention the cost was very reasonable. They accommodated us when one of our group members had to leave the trek a day early to catch a flight. We really enjoyed having Adolfo as our guide and Deyer as our donkey guide and cooking assistant. They were both very energetic and friendly, and it was evident that they really love their land and culture as we spent many hours on the trail and in the cooking tent learning about each other’s countries and backgrounds. The scenery was absolutely gorgeous and varied, one could never get tired of starring at the glaciers (which are sadly melting very fast) and emerald blue and green lakes. As we were between 4000-5000m every day, the elevation and cold weather in the evenings kicked our butts! Tip: put the donkey blankets underneath and on top of your sleeping bag. They will keep you super warm at night. The food, from pancakes and oatmeal for breakfast, to freshly cut French fries, cheesy wontons with guacamole for afternoon tea/snack, and fresh trout for dinner and the endless variety of meals were great. Don’t’ be afraid to make requests if you have favorite food items! It was also really nice to be able to eat fresh produce throughout the two weeks. Adolfo and Deyer were excellent guides and we had a special treat at the end of the trek where we made pachamanca at Adolfo’s house (his kids are also real cuties!) Anamin was also very helpful in Huarez and took us shopping for a few souvenirs. When our flight back to Lima got delayed, she helped me call the train company to get a later train to Aguas Caliente and the hotel to let them know about my late arrival.
